AnnaBelinda — A Little Oxford Fashion History

Founded in Oxford in 1970 by Anita Woodhead and Belinda O’Hanlon, AnnaBelinda became a much-loved British fashion label, celebrated for beautiful fabrics, distinctive designs and meticulous attention to detail.

From its early beginnings on Park End Street, the business grew into an established boutique on Gloucester Street, near Oxford’s Gloucester Green. The label itself began in 1970 and was already established nationally through Liberty and Harrods by the mid-1970s. In 1975, AnnaBelinda was one of just three labels chosen to design a dress celebrating Liberty’s centenary.

Known for its use of Liberty prints, sumptuous velvets, silks and beautifully considered finishing touches, AnnaBelinda created everything from distinctive daywear to bespoke bridal gowns. The Oxford boutique closed in 2012, leaving a legacy treasured by vintage fashion enthusiasts.

Here at The Alley, I have carefully chosen a collection of these special pieces—beautiful clothes with individuality, craftsmanship and a fascinating British fashion story.
