A remarkable vintage skirt suit by AnnaBelinda of Oxford, created in a luminous spearmint green and enlivened by extraordinary vertical rows of multicoloured slubbed yarn.
The beautifully fitted jacket has a clean, collarless V-neckline and a softly shaped silhouette. Its richly textured surface combines spearmint with delicate threads of raspberry, coral, blush pink, lilac, ochre, cream and soft green, creating colour and dimension that reveal themselves differently in changing light.
Nine spearmint fabric-covered buttons fasten through discreet loops, arranged in three carefully spaced groups of three. Small front pockets, gently curved edges and three covered buttons at the back of each cuff complete the beautifully considered design.
The coordinating skirt is cut in a plain spearmint woven fabric, allowing the intricate jacket to remain the focus. It has a side zip and two fabric-covered buttons with loops at the waistband.
Both pieces are fully lined.
Elegant, distinctive and exceptionally difficult to replicate, this is a wonderfully wearable example of AnnaBelinda’s imaginative British design.
Why I love this
The colours in this jacket are quite extraordinary. From a distance it appears softly spearmint, but close up it reveals a tapestry of pink, lilac, coral, ochre and green yarns. The matching skirt gives it all the presence of a complete occasion suit, while the jacket could also be worn separately with silk trousers, denim or a simple dress.
