Why I Love This
A truly exceptional original AnnaBelinda dress, combining the label’s wonderfully romantic silhouette with some of its most distinctive artisanal detailing.
The fluid chocolate-brown fabric is patterned with an intricate peacock-feather design in chestnut, black, cream, rust and ochre. It is framed beautifully by panels of warm golden-ochre short-pile velvet, vertically quilted across the dramatic high-necked bodice, cuffs and deep hem border.
Twelve matching fabric-covered buttons and rouleau loops fasten the front bodice, with two further covered buttons at each cuff. Fine contrast piping outlines the yoke and panelled waist, drawing attention to the beautifully considered construction.
The fitted bodice gives way to a softly flowing skirt that falls close to the body before opening gently towards the hem. Elegant, unusual and unmistakably of its era, this is a remarkable example of British vintage design.
The label itself began in 1970 and was already established nationally through Liberty and Harrods by the mid-1970s.
