Why I Love This
Some garments arrive with more than a label. They arrive with a life already woven into them.
This extraordinary ALGO of Switzerland two-piece was given to me by its original owner, now aged 87, who wore it in her youth. Believed to date from the late 1960s or early 1970s, it has survived in astonishing condition and feels every bit as joyful today as it must have when it was first worn.
The shirt is the real flourish: partly semi-sheer cotton scattered with multicoloured spots, vivid painterly flowers and raised white floral texture. Pink pearlised buttons, softly gathered cuffs and a generous pointed collar complete the design. The matching high-rise cropped trousers use the spotted fabric alone, allowing the remarkable shirt to take centre stage.
ALGO was founded in Zurich in 1917 by Alexandre Goetschel and became known for beautifully tailored womenswear, exceptional fabrics and clothing designed to endure. This rare ensemble is a wonderful expression of that heritage.
A true collector’s piece, yet entirely wearable. Add sandals and sunglasses for summer, or style the shirt and trousers separately to let each piece tell its own chapter.
